Hotels on the Isle of Skye

There’s yet another reason for toasting the Sonas Collection of hotels – Skye’s newest distillery, Torabhaig.

It opened in June a few hundred yards away from Toravaig House and chose the hotel to host the celebration dinner. The exciting development provides not only a new local whisky offering but a further visitor attraction.

Commanding views across the Atlantic waters of the Sound of Sleat, it was the first hotel in Skye’s now three-property Sonas (Gaelic for happiness, enjoyment and peace) Collection. The family-run Collection is owned by Anne and Ken Gunn, 2013 Scottish Hoteliers of the Year, who are constantly striving to provide the finest Highland hospitality and outstanding guest experiences.

They constantly invest in the iconic Skye buildings that make up the Sonas Collection, investing in quality decor and furnishings.

Anne loves the creative process of choosing the luxurious colours and textures which show off the buildings at their best. Atsonas hotels Toravaig, the muted pallet of browns, creams and mauves reflect the Highland landscape.

All three hotels have amassed an impressive awards collection. The nine-bedroom Toravaig, which underwent a £120,000 refurbishment this spring, is a previous winner of Island Hotel of the Year. In 2017 it won the Islands’ region awards for best small country house and wedding hotel. Menus in the Iona restaurant, created by Head Chef Miles Craven and his team, change daily to feature the best local produce.

The other hotels in the group are Duisdale, along the road from Toravaig, and the latest addition, Skeabost House, in the north near Portree. Each has 18 bedrooms.

Duisdale was voted VisitScotland’s Hotel of the Year in 2013, and in 2015 took the prestigious Catering in Scotland Award for Best Independent Hotel.

Skeabost is the only hotel on Skye with its own golf course, and offers excellent sea trout and salmon fishing on the River Snizort. This year a beauty treatment room was added in its feature tower.

All three hotels are popular wedding venues – even more reasons to celebrate! To make a reservation at any Sonas hotel call 01471-833202
